Guests are fully responsible for any fines or penalties incurred during their trip. This includes, but is not limited to:
Parking violations
Speeding tickets
Toll evasion
Any other traffic or road-related offenses
Post-Trip Liability:
A guest may also be held liable for a fine incurred after their trip if it is determined that the vehicle was left in a manner that could reasonably lead to a violation—such as parking in an area without restrictions at the time of drop-off but which later becomes restricted (e.g., timed zones or street sweeping areas).
End of Responsibility:
A guest’s liability for the vehicle and any associated fines ends when the next approved user begins their trip or takes custody of the vehicle.
Guests are encouraged to park responsibly at the end of their trip and ensure they are in compliance with local laws and regulations to avoid post-trip penalties.
Reporting the fine to Drive mate
As soon as the host receives a fine which they believe happened during a Drive mate trip, then they need to follow these steps:
Our system is now fully automated to handle fines.
To proceed, hosts should visit Intercom.
Select ‘I want to nominate a guest.
The system will then prompt them to provide the relevant trip details. Once completed, they will receive the guest’s information along with the $25 inconvenience fee.
Transferring the fine to the guest
The instructions for transferring a fine to another driver are usually set out on the fine notice. You should follow those instructions.
You will need:
a copy of the fine or penalty notice
the Note to Transfer, containing the guest's name, address, date of birth, driver licence number and state or country of issue. We will email this to you after you send us a picture or scan of the fine.
If you are asked to provide more information, forward the request to Drive mate. We will provide further evidence of the responsible party to the issuing authority directly
