Overview
This guide explains the correct procedure for removing an Otoplug from a vehicle.
Depending on the vehicle, the Otoplug may be connected only to the OBD port (push start vehicles) or to both the OBD port and the ignition lock aerial (crank start vehicles).
The Otoplug is typically secured using cable ties and is commonly installed underneath the dashboard or inside the centre console, depending on the available space.
Before You Begin
Before starting the removal:
Switch the ignition OFF.
Remove the ignition key (if applicable).
Handle all wiring and connectors carefully.
Never pull on the wiring—always disconnect using the connector body.
Removal Procedure
Step 1 – Locate the OBD Connector
Locate the vehicle’s OBD port, usually underneath the driver’s side dashboard.
Trace the OBD Power & Data Cable from the OBD port to locate the Otoplug.
Depending on the vehicle, the Otoplug may be installed:
Under the dashboard
Inside the centre console
Behind nearby trim where sufficient space is available
Most installations are secured using cable ties.
Step 2 – Disconnect the OBD Power & Data Cable
Remove the OBD connector by pulling it straight out of the vehicle’s OBD port.
The connector does not have a locking tab.
Do not pull on the cable itself.
Step 3 – Disconnect the Ignition Lock Aerial (Crank Start Vehicles Only)
If the vehicle is fitted with a traditional ignition key, disconnect the ignition lock aerial.
You can either:
Press the release tab on the connector and unplug it, or
Remove the aerial assembly together with the cable as one complete unit.
For push start vehicles, skip this step.
Step 4 – Remove the Otoplug
Locate the Otoplug.
In most installations, the device is secured using cable ties.
Carefully cut and remove the cable ties without damaging the vehicle wiring.
Remove the Otoplug from the vehicle.
Step 5 – Remove Remaining Wiring
Remove all remaining Otoplug wiring from the vehicle.
For crank start vehicles, ensure the ignition lock aerial is also removed.
Remove any remaining cable ties or mounting materials and leave the installation area clean.
Step 6 – Final Inspection
Before completing the job, confirm:
The OBD port is clear.
The Otoplug has been completely removed.
All associated wiring has been removed.
The ignition lock aerial has been removed (where applicable).
No cable ties, adhesive, or loose wiring remain.
The vehicle has been returned to its original condition.
Step 7 - Returning the Device

Please package the device securely to prevent damage during transit.
Once the device has been posted, send us a copy or photo of the postal receipt. We will reimburse your postage costs.
Important: Unless the Otoplug is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), the device remains the property of Drive Mate. If we have requested that the device be returned and it is not returned, a $500 non-return fee may apply.
