Eligibility requirements for renting:
Before creating an account, make sure you meet the following requirements:
Minimum age: You must be at least 21 years old.
Valid driver's licence: You must hold a valid Australian or international driver's licence.
Australian licence holders: Your licence must be a FULL licence. Learner and provisional licences are not accepted.
Young Driver surcharge: If you are under 25, a 10% surcharge applies to your booking.
Australian phone number: All guests must have a valid Australian phone number (+61).
Important: Every application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee account approval, as additional verification and eligibility checks may be required. If you do not meet the eligibility requirements, you will not be able to rent a vehicle through Drive mate.
Additional Security Checks
To maintain a safe and trusted platform, Drive mate may conduct additional checks as part of its security and verification processes. If further information or documentation is required, we will let you know. These checks help us ensure that users meet our eligibility and security requirements. Account approval remains subject to the outcome of the applicable checks.
Identity and credit checks
During registration and verification, Drive mate may conduct identity and credit checks to verify your details and assess your eligibility to use the platform. By creating an account, you acknowledge and consent to these checks being carried out in accordance with applicable laws and Drive mate's Privacy policy.
Steps to Create your Drive mate account
Follow these steps to register and submit your account for verification.
Visit Drive mate: Go to the Drive mate website or download the app.
Sign up: Click Sign Up in the top-right corner.
Enter your details: Provide your full name, email address and password.
Verify your email: Open the verification email sent to your inbox and click the link provided.
Upload your driver's licence: Submit clear images of the front and back of your licence. Do not submit scanned or digitized IDs.
Complete identity verification: Provide any additional documents requested, such as a passport or proof of residency.
Add your payment method: Enter your payment details as required.
Wait for approval: Your application will be reviewed. Account approval may take up to 24 hours.
Account approval
Once your account has been approved, you will receive a confirmation email. You can then browse available vehicles and proceed with bookings, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements.
Completing registration does not automatically mean your account has been approved. You must complete the required verification checks and receive account approval before renting a vehicle.
