What happens in case of an accident?

In the unfortunate event of an accident, the Drive mate team fully takes care of the whole process. What you can expect in this process is:


1. End to end management of the process by Drive mate

2. Drive mate will arrange a quote for repair from one of our network of approved mechanics and panelbeaters.

3. You are always assured of repair of eligible damage for a valid claim 

4. A claim is considered valid if:

  • The accident happened during a Drive mate trip

  • The vehicle adhered to the maintenance policy of Drive mate

    Additional Coverage and Process Details

  1. Coverage:

    • No Cost to You/No Deductible: There is no out-of-pocket cost or deductible for you.

    • Exterior & Interior Damage: Both exterior and interior damage are covered, subject to Drive mate's Wear and Tear Policy.

    • Damage Reporting: You must report damage within 24 hours of trip end, or 14 days for vehicles located over 5kms from host home address.

    • Mechanical Damage: Mechanical damage caused by guest misuse is covered only if proven by our workshops. Normal wear and tear, such as minor scratches, scrubs, and tire wear, are not covered.

  2. Process:

    • Quotes: Drive Mate will obtain quotes from our workshop network.

  3. Loss of Use:

    • Compensation: $25/day for loss of use, with a maximum coverage of 14 days. Only applies for full days the vehicle is undriveable and/or undergoing repairs.

  4. Time for Reporting:

    • Standard Reporting: Damage must be reported within 24 hours or trip end.

    • Extended Reporting: If the car is parked beyond 5 km from your residence, you have up to 14 days to report the damage.

  5. Guaranteed Payment: Payment for the car is guaranteed for valid claims.

  6. Total Loss/Theft:

    • Market Value Payout: In the case of total loss or theft, the market value, as determined by the assessor from insurance, will be paid out.
