What is the eligibility criteria for cars on Drive mate?

Drive mate offers a wide range of vehicle options on our platform, supporting over 1,150 car models commonly seen on the road. These can include privately owned vehicles or vehicles owned by businesses, as long as the Host is authorised to rent them out on our platform.

Car Eligibility

Your car must meet the following criteria to be listed on Drive mate. We have three possible criteria. If your vehicle meets ANY of the three criteria, then it will be deemed eligible.

1. Base Criteria

Your car must satisfy all of the following conditions to meet the base criteria:

  • Manufactured in 2008 or Later: The car must have been manufactured no earlier than 2008.

  • Value: The car’s value must be $120,000 or less.

  • Mileage: The car must have less than 200,000 kilometers on the odometer at the time of listing. (For a limited time period, cars up to 220k, will also be considered case-by-case).

If your car meets the above criteria, it qualifies under the base criteria for listing on Drive mate.

2. Alternative Criteria

If your car does not meet the base criteria, it can still qualify if it meets the following alternative condition:

  • Redbook Value: The car must have a Redbook value of at least $8,000 at the time of listing the car.

  • Vintage, classic, sports, and performance vehicles will also be considered case-by-case.

Cars meeting the alternative criteria can still be listed, provided all other requirements are met.

3. Vans & UTEs

Vans and utes with over 200,000 kilometers or older than 2008, especially those with long-lasting and reliable diesel engines, will be considered for listing on a case-by-case basis by mate. These vehicles are often built for durability and high mileage, making them potential candidates despite exceeding typical age or mileage limits.

Do note that your vehicle needs to comply with ANY OF THE THREE CRITERIA above.

Additional Requirements

Regardless of whether your car meets the base or alternative criteria, the following requirements must also be satisfied:

  • Well Maintained: Your vehicle must be regularly serviced and in good working condition.

  • Seating: The vehicle must have seating for no more than 12 passengers.

  • Type: It must be a private passenger vehicle with four wheels.

  • Legal Registration: The car must be legally registered in Australia.

  • Clean Title: The vehicle must have a clean title, meaning it cannot be “branded” or “salvage.”

  • Repairable Write-Offs: If your vehicle has been classified as a repairable write-off and has been repaired to meet appropriate standards, it may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Safety and Maintenance: The vehicle must meet Drive mate's safety and maintenance standards. Refer to our maintenance policy for detailed requirements.
